Privacy Policy
Screenshot Steps is a browser extension for capturing screenshots, annotating them, organising them into step-by-step guides, and exporting or sharing those guides. It is designed to be local by default — your data stays on your device unless you choose otherwise.
Data We Handle
Screenshot Steps may handle the following types of data when you use the extension:
- Website content: screenshots of web pages you choose to capture.
- Web history data: page URLs, page titles, and capture timestamps saved alongside guide steps.
- User activity: click locations and step numbers when you use click tracking mode.
- Authentication information: optional integration tokens or API keys you enter for connected services.
Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, sell, rent, or use your data for advertising or tracking. We do not collect health information, financial or payment information, personal communications, or precise location data.
Local Storage
Guides, screenshots, annotations, settings, and integration configuration are stored locally in your browser using Chrome storage. Your captured data stays on your device unless you choose to export, download, copy, or share it through an enabled integration.
Optional Integrations
Screenshot Steps can connect to optional services — including Notion, GitHub, Slack, and Atlassian Confluence — if you enable and configure them. When you use an integration, the extension sends only the guide content required to complete the action you requested.
For example: screenshots may be sent to Notion or Confluence; Markdown content may be sent to GitHub; guide text or links may be sent to Slack. These transfers occur only when you intentionally use the related export or share feature.
AI Processing
Screenshot Steps does not use AI processing. Your screenshots and guide content are never sent to AI services by this extension.
Permissions
Screenshot Steps requests browser permissions only to provide its core features: capturing the active tab, injecting capture overlays into pages, saving guide data locally, downloading exports, opening the editor, adding context menu shortcuts, and connecting to optional integrations when you enable them.
Data Sharing
We do not share your data with third parties for advertising, tracking, profiling, or resale. Data is shared with third-party services only when you explicitly use an integration or export destination that you have configured.
Data Retention and Deletion
Data remains in your browser until you delete it. You can clear guides, settings, and integration credentials from the extension options page. You can also remove all extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing its Chrome storage via browser settings.
Security
Integration credentials are stored locally in Chrome storage and are never transmitted to our servers. You should only add credentials for services you trust, and remove them when they are no longer needed.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy if the extension changes in ways that affect data handling. Any updates will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page.
